Safe, efficient, professional drilling and pumping services
28 Years of Experience
EDRS undertakes the following drilling and pumping services:
EDRS currently has a fleet of seven dedicated RC Rig outfits. The RC rigs are a combination of truck mounted (4 x 4 and 6 x 6) and track mounted rigs. Compressors and boosters are truck and trailer mounted. Drilling depths vary from 10m to 400m (depending on water intersections). All types of cyclones and splitters available.
EDRS has imported a SDC550 Sonic Rig from USA for the sampling and drilling of unconsolidated material. The Sonic Drill has an outstanding ability to provide continuous and relatively undisturbed core samples through any geological formation. Holes are drilled and cored by rotating and vibrating the rod, core barrel and casing at resonant sonic frequencies. Ideal for investigating heavy metal, organic and other types of contamination.
EDRS has successfully completed several mine de-watering & bulk water supply drilling projects in S. Africa, Madagascar, Zambia, DRC & CAR.De-watering boreholes of between 10” – 20” are commonly drilled to depths of between 100m – 300m. Drilling techniques include Mud Rotary, Symmetrix, ODEX, DTH and Reverse Flood Rotary.
Our Prakla Drilling Rig enabled EDRS to undertake bulk water supply drilling for municipalities including Port Elizabeth and CT. The Prakla RB50 has a drilling depth capability of 1,200M and a drilling diameter capability of up to 300mm. This rig is perfect for large diameter well drilling.
Aquifer Testing of boreholes up to 250m deep. Pump yields up to 350m3/hr. Submersible & Positive Displacement Pumps.
Drilling and sampling of contaminated soil, groundwater monitoring and remediation wells (around plant, tailings and hydrocarbon storage facilities)
Rehabilitation and rejuvenation of boreholes involving high pressure air, water and chemicals. Wells that have reduced yields over time commonly have chemical and/or biological encrustation retarding the ingress of water into the well. EDRS has a number of techniques to rehabilitate such problem wells.

How much water do you want to pump?
A: As much as possible (?)
How much water can you pump from a borehole is determined by, the yield of the borehole and the size of pump that you can install into the borehole. As far as possible, a farmer does not want the size of the borehole to be the limiting factor in determining the yield of the borehole. Unfortunately, in most cases, you have to drill the borehole to determine the yield of the borehole and that allows for the sizing of the pump. However, in most areas that use groundwater for irrigation, the average yield of boreholes is known and the final diameter of borehole can be selected to accommodate the size of pump required for the average yield.
